Reusing Old Blankets
I know yesterday I covered patchwork style items. Blankets, of course, could be cut up and used in this way. However, I prefer to use old stained, hole filled blankets for something else. Old blankets have a variety of uses, the most obvious being the center of a quilt. This means taking a patchwork top, the messed up blanket for a middle and a patchwork bottom and sewing them into a quilt.
This makes old terrible looking blankets look new again. It also makes them much better at keeping you or your family warm if they have holes. I prefer to fix the holes before placing the old blanket inside the quilt. That way when I tack it down, I don’t end up having missed spots that lead to bunching.
Old Blankets can also be used to line a dog house for the winter, provide traction on side walks, composted if 100% cotton, used as stuffing for draft doggies, cut down to baby blankets size and have the edges sewn, turned into a coat or used as the lining for a patchwork coat, used as the lining for patchwork cutains, stuffed around air conditions in winter, and more.
